New Research Spotlight: Pycnogenol® Supports Cognitive Function, Attention and Mental Performance*
In its role as a key phytonutrient for controlling oxidative stress
("phytonutrients" are nutrients from plants), Pycnogenol® appears work
effectively in the brain, as shown in an open-label study of adults who were
assessed as having a high level of oxidative stress. The subjects took 100 mg of
Pycnogenol® daily for 12 months. At the beginning and end of the study,
cognitive function was evaluated by having the subjects complete a standardized
questionnaire as well as undergoing various tests. A second group that did not
take Pycnogenol® was given the same questionnaire and tests, as a control for
comparison. At the end of the year, the differences between the two groups was
clear: the Pycnogenol® group had improvements in all measurements, including
cognitive function and ability to perform daily tasks. Oxidative stress was
reduced by 30 percent. No such changes occurred in the control group.
